CITY OF MALOLOS – Department of Health Secretary Janette Loreto-Garin was all praises to all the Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) who attended the annual Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) Congress this morning held at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city for being reliable and efficient partners in the implementation of DOH health programs.
“Sa totoo lang po, mahihirapan ang DOH dahil kung wala kayo, maski anong programa, pondo at gawin, mahirap talaga. Kayo ang aming kaagapay,” the secretary said.
Aside from the BHWs, Garin also recognized the efforts of the Provincial Health Officers and Municipal Health Officers in ensuring a healthy community through efficient delivery of health programs.
The highlight of the congress was the launching of Provincial Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus Control Program and TSeK-AP (Tamang Serbisyo para sa Kalusugan ng Pamilya).
Dr. Maila Rostra of the DOH-RO3 talked about the establishment of the DOH Hypertension and Diabetes Club during the program.
In line with this, the BHWs were advised to help inform the people and encourage them to go to the nearest health center or primary health care facility to undergo assessment, screening and management.
Individuals with hypertension or diabetes can avail free maintenance medicine by signing up for the DOH Hypertension and Diabetes Club at the nearest DOH health center. If the patient is found or diagnosed to have hypertension and/or diabetes, he will be enrolled to the club. The member can then avail DOH drugs for hypertension such as Losartan, Amlodipine, Metoprolol and Metformin for diabetes.
According to Rostra, this would enhance the initiatives in addressing non-communicable diseases and would serve as a support group in the communities with regard to information dissemination as well as in ensuring appropriate management is provided to all patients.
The DOH also promoted healthy lifestyle in order to control high blood pressure and sugar and to prevent other complications.
Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado assured that the said healthcare services will benefit more Bulakenyos.
“I urge everyone to make use of these health opportunities and be part of the DOH Hypertension and Diabetes Club,” Alvarado said.
Other personalities who attended the event were National Epidemiology Center Director Dr. Enrique Tayag, DOH Region 3 Director Leonita Gorgolon, Frances Ann Petilla and Paolo Roxas who represent Judy Roxas, president of the Gerry Roxas Foundation which is the partner of DOH in providing medical kit that includes some medical supplies and medicines for each BHW.
