DILG sec to grace the 118th Anniversary of the First Philippine Republic

CITY OF MALOLOS – Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael D. Sueno is set to commemorate together with thousands of Bulakenyos, the fulfillment of the dream of the nation’s heroes to give the country its sovereignty on January 23, 2017 at the historic Barasoain Church in this city.

The commemoration of the 118th Anniversary of the First Philippine Republic which is anchored on the theme, “Republica Filipina: Sagisag ng Demokrasya ng Bansa”, will start at 8:00 o’clock in the morning through a flag raising ceremony and wreath laying activity on the monument of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the Republic of the Philippines.

According to Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, it is fit and proper not only for the Bulakenyos but also for the whole Filipino nation to relive the day when the country fought for its freedom and won the battle against foreign invaders.

“Sa duyan ng kasarinlan ay nakasakay hindi lamang ang dakilang lalawigan ng Bulacan kundi ang buong bansang Pilipinas, kaya marapat lamang na ipaalala at ipagdiwang ng buong bayan ang nakamit nating kalayaan sa pamamagitan ng ating mga minamahal na bayani,” Alvarado said.

Dr. Rene R. Escalante, OIC-Chairman of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines will also take part on the said event, together with local officials, government employees, senior citizens, volunteer workers, veterans, teachers, students and other non-government organizations.

Also, to give Bulakenyos the full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion, Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea issued Proclamation No. 129 also known as “Declaring Monday, 23 January 2017, as a Special (Non-Working) Day in the Province of Bulacan”.

Meanwhile, the Alagang Kalusugan Medikal Mission mula kay Tatay Digong 2017 in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bulacan (Kapitolyo sa Barangay) will offer free medical and dental services, free medicines, an X-ray and Electrocardiogram (ECG) tests, haircut, reflexology and massage as well as legal counseling from 7:30 am until 12:00 noon beside the Barasoain Church.

The inauguration of the First Philippine Republic also known as Malolos Republic and the proclamation of the First President-elect, Gen. Aguinaldo took place on January 23, 1899 at the historic ground of Barasoain Church.
