CITY OF MALOLOS – With the theme “Lakas ng Republika sa Harap ng Nagbabagong Panahon Tungo sa Daang Matuwid”, the province of Bulacan will commemorate the 116th Anniversary of the First Philippine Republic on January 23, 2015 at the grounds of the historic Barasoain Church with Department of Interior and Local Government Sec. Manuel “Mar” Roxas as the guest of honor.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the event which is a provincial holiday is celebrated annually to remind everyone of its significant role in our government today.
The program will start at 8 o’clock in the morning through a flag raising ceremony and wreathe laying activity at Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo’s monument.
He said, today’s events will become tomorrow’s history that is why it is necessary to do worth remembering things at present.
“Sikapin natin na ang masusulat sa ating kasaysayan, ang mga ngayon na bubuo ng kahapon natin ay maging makabuluhan tulad ng pagbubuwis ng buhay ng ating mga bayani, tulad ng kanilang pagnanais na makamit ang kalayaan at magkaroon ng matatag na pamahalaan na magbigay din ng inspirasyon sa susunod na salinlahi,” Alvarado said.
He added that it’s not just about dying for the country, it is also about the intention and the willingness to serve the country for the benefit of its people.
The First Philippine Republic, popularly known as the Malolos Republic, was the first republic in Asia. It was inaugurated on January 23, 1899 at the Barasoain Church in this city where Aguinaldo took his oath of office as president of the nation.
