Bulakenyos to prove their skill in music in Singkaban Brass Band Competition

CITY OF MALOLOS – To prove their skilfulness and mastery in playing music as a group, Bulakenyo brass band groups will compete with each other in the upcoming “Singkaban Brass Band Competition” on September 10, 2018, 1 p.m. at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city.
Before the sertamen or competition proper, the majorette exhibition will first take place at the grounds of the historic Barasoain Church in this city at 8 a.m. to be followed by the parade of the band contenders to the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
Each band, that should be composed of 30 to 40 members with ages 10 to 22 excluding the Band Conductor, will play two pieces, one major work that will be identified by the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) and one Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
Contestants will be judged according to the musicality, ensemble and dynamics of their major work and OPM pieces, which is 70 percent and their synchronization, musicality and ensemble during the parade, which is 30 percent of the overall criteria.
Majorettes will also be graded according to their creativity (25%), variation (20%), costumes (20%), technique (20%) and audience impact (15%).
Each winner will take home a trophy and cash prize worth P50,000, P30,000 and P20,000 for the first, second and third places respectively. Also, six runner-up groups will bag P10,000 and a trophy each; the Best Band in Parade will receive P10,000 and a trophy; and the Best Majorette will be given P5,000 and a trophy.
Meanwhile, Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado recognized the undying love of Bulakenyos for arts especially in music that is evident on many different bands in the province.
“Sa bawat paaralan, unibersidad at komunidad ay mayroon tayong mga musikero na handang magpamalas ng kanilang angking husay kung mabibigyan lamang ng pagkakataon. Higit sa karangalang tatanggapin, mas matimbang ang ating pagnanasa na ibahagi sa ating kapwa ang talento na kaloob sa atin ng Poong Maykapal,” the governor said.
The Singkaban Brass Band Competition is part of the activities on the opening day of Singkaban Festival 2018, which is anchored on the theme “Pamanang Kalinangan ng Nakaraan, Gabay sa Maunlad na Kinabukasan”.
