Bulakenyo agriculturists, among Gawad Saka 2015 Awardees

CITY OF MALOLOS – Outstanding Bulakenyos in the field of farming system and livestock has once again recognized by the Department of Agriculture III in the recently concluded Regional Gawad Saka and Organic Agriculture Achievers 2015 awarding ceremony held at the Fontana Convention Center, Clark Field Pampanga.

Among the winners are Melchor Diego from San Ildefonso as the Outstanding High Value Crops Farmer for his remarkable and strategic farming system and Celestino Mananguit, a livestock farmer also from the same municipality as the Outstanding Large Animal Raiser for his significant contribution in the area of livestock development.

Organic farmer Emmanuel Bundoc from Pulilan was also recognized for his outstanding contribution in organic farming and received the Outstanding Small Farmer award for the individual category.

All of them received plaque of appreciation and cash incentive from the Department of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado congratulated the winners and commended the efforts of their respective municipality for its continued support to the farmers and efforts for the development of the agriculture sector.

“Dito muling pinatunayan ng ating mga kababayang Bulakenyo ang kanilang husay sa larangan ng pagsasaka at paghahayupan na talaga namang mayroong malaking naiaambag sa pag-unlad ng agrikultura sa lalawigan. Bilang ang Bulacan ay isang agrikultural na lalawigan, sila ang ating katuwang sa pag-abot sa kaunlaran,” Alvarado said.

Moreover, DA III strongly believes that the regional winners have a big chance to bag the awards in the national level as they represent the region.

They also lauded the contribution of the province of Bulacan as one of the top ten provinces in the country with significant contribution to the national Rice Sufficiency Program.

The Gawad Saka is an annual awarding ceremony that recognizes the significant contributions of the farmers, fisher folks and rural groups to the development of the agriculture sector, but more so in their continued efforts to provide food for our table.
