CITY OF MALOLOS – Before the year ends, the province of Bulacan added another honor in its pool of recognitions after being hailed as the “2015 Outstanding Province in the Region” during the recently held 2016 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at the Century Hotel, Angeles City, Pampanga.
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the people of Bulacan were very thankful to the National Nutrition Council for recognizing the sustainable existing program on nutrition in the province.
Alvarado said that the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office has been fighting malnutrition through sustainable interventions such as the Lugaw Caravan, Breastfeeding Program, distribution of Nutri-Notebook, Nutrition On Air – Kalingang Bulakenyo Radio Program, Infant And Young Child Feeding Program, and other nutrition related programs for school children.
The governor also disclosed that in Bulacan, there are 63 facilitators, three per municipality in the 21 towns. He said that the Municipal and Barangay Nutrition Committee is constantly functioning in conducting programs that are anchored on the health and nutrition programs of the province.
Further, health workers and village officials are regularly monitoring weight evaluation of children.
He also said that orientations are being made to newly elected officials about the on-going nutrition programs of the PGB.
Also, through the years, the efforts of various agencies, community and civil society organizations resulted to a strong and effective implementation of nutrition related programs.
“At all times we should maintain a high standard of conduct and commit ourselves to further develop our capacities to lead our people to good health as means to follow the principles of good governance,” Alvarado said.
Meanwhile, other awardees were Municipality of Bulakan who was hailed 1st runner for 2015 Outstanding Municipality in the Region; Lourdes Cruz of Brgy. Capihan, San Rafael as Provincial Outstanding Bulacan Nutrition Scholar; Riziel Bautista of Brgy. Bagna, City of Malolos and Josephine Flores of San Jose Del Monte as City Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars.
The “2015 Outstanding Province in the Region” award was presented by Dr. Louella H. Estember, Assistant Regional Director, Department of Health Region 3 and Ma. Ana Maria Rosaldo, Officer-in-Charge, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator, NNC-Region 3.
