Bulacan veterans to be honored with US Gold Medal on BMA’s 82nd Year

CITY OF MALOLOS – As the Province of Bulacan marks the 82nd Anniversary of the Bulacan Military Area (BMA), the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office in partnership with the City Government of Malolos and the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office will be awarding the US Congressional Gold Medals to Bulakenyo veterans who bravely fought during the World War II that will be held at the Valencia Hall, Bulacan State University on September 14, 1:30 pm.

The US Congressional Gold Medal, one of the highest civilian honor that is being granted by the United States Congress, will serve as a lasting tribute to the WWII veterans and families of fallen heroes for their heroism and patriotism.

Expected to grace the occasion is MaryKay Loss Carlson, United States Ambassador to the Philippines, not only to honor the Bulakenyo’s sacrifices during the WWII but also to highlight the enduring legacy of courage, unity, and freedom that the BMA has instilled in generations of Bulakenyos.

Meanwhile, Governor Daniel R. Fernando said that honoring the Bulakenyo veterans who fought for the country decades ago is not as simple as being part of the history, but it also serves as a living reminder of the province’s patriotism and sacrifice.

“By honoring our Bulakenyo veterans is by honoring the very foundation of our province’s strength – bravery, unity, and our unwavering love for the country. Let their courage remind us that freedom is never free, and it is our duty to protect it,” Fernando said.

The BMA, under the leadership of Bulacan’s former Governor Gen. Alejo S. Santos, became one of the fiercest resistances during the Japanese occupation. Since then, it became a symbol of heroism and independence that many, especially the youth, continue to live by today. ###
