Bulacan to unveil commemorative marker in honor of Ka Blas on Feb. 3

CITY OF MALOLOS – As a tribute to Gat. Blas F. Ople, a great Bulakenyo journalist and politician, the Provincial Government of Bulacan will unveil a commemorative marker in the Gusaling Gat Blas F. Ople Sentro ng Kabataan, Kaalaman at Hanapbuhay coinciding the commemoration of his 92nd Birth Anniversary in front of the Livelihood Training Center on Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Anchored on the theme “Pagpapatuloy ng kanyang nasimulan sa larangan ng empleyo at kabuhayan”, the program will start through a wreath laying activity at the monument of Ople in the Old Gat Blas F. Ople Building to be led by Commission on Audit Chairman Atty. Michael G. Aguinaldo together with Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado and Vice Gov. Daniel R. Fernando.

After the wreath laying, the guests will proceed to the Livelihood Training Center for the unveiling of the marker, flag raising ceremony and oath to the national flag.

Alvarado invites all the Bulakenyos to witness the program and join the province in showing its gratefulness and pride for one of its delighted sons.

“Hindi maikakaila ang lawak ng naiambag ng ating kalalawigan sa kanyang kapanahunan na magpahanggang ngayon ay ating tinatamasa. Marapat lamang na tayong kanyang mga kapwa Bulakenyo ay magkaisa sa pag-aalay ng parangal sa isang taong tunay na maipagmamalaki at ikararangal ng ating lipi,” the governor said.

Other attendees include other local officials, boy scouts, Lingkod Lingap sa Nayon members, Mother Leaders, Barangay Health Workers, and employees of the Provincial Government of Bulacan and Department of Education among others.

Ople became famous first as the columnist behind the “Jeepney Tales” for the Daily Mirror before being appointed and elected in different offices including Social Security Commissioner, Secretary of Labor and Employment, Senate President and Secretary of Foreign Affairs. He was also a member of the Constitutional Commission that drafted the Philippine Constitution of 1986.
