CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan will commemorate the 118th anniversary of the Philippine Independence and revive its true meaning along with hundreds of Bulakenyos at the historic Barasoain Church on June 12, 2016.
With the theme, “Kalayaan 2016 – Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong”, the celebration will revolve in inspiring every Bulakenyo to feel and claim independence as well as the responsibilities it holds.
“Sa panahon na ‘to, madaling sabihing malaya ka, kasi inihain na sa atin, dumanak ang dugo, nagbuwis ng buhay ang mga kapwa nating Pilipino sa panahong wala pa tayo, kaya hindi natin alam ang pakiramdam ng totoong mawalan ng kalayaan, at ang responsibilidad sa pagkakamit nito,” Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said.
Alvarado also said that this month of honouring the country’s independence is an opportune time to really understand and inspire others of what it takes to be free and be reminded that freedom is not about oneself, it is about the country and what one can do for the nation.
Meanwhile, Senator Cynthia Villar is expected to grace the event as the guest speaker and will lead the flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies at the statute of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo together with the local officials.
Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) is an annual national holiday in the Philippines observed every June 12 as a commemoration of the Philippine Declaration of Independence from Spain on June 12, 1898 by President Emilio Aguinaldo. It was also the first time that the Filipino flag was unfurled and the Philippine National Anthem was played.
