CITY OF MALOLOS – In one with the nation in the celebration of National Indigenous People’s Month, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office will hold a program for the indigenous people dubbed as “Taunang Araw ng mga Katutubong Dumagat” on October 21, 2022 at Sitio Manalo, Brgy. San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulacan.
With the theme, “Pagsasakatuparan ng mga Katutubong Karapatan at Kapakanan Batay sa Kanilang Pangarap at Hangarin”, the celebration aims to raise public awareness and to support the indigenous culture in the province.
Expected to give their messages about strengthening and preserving the indigenous culture are Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando, Atty. Antonio A. Roman, OIC-Regional Director III of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and Mrs. Regina Panlilio, Chief of NCIP-Bulacan.
Meanwhile, Fernando hopes that Bulakenyos will treat the Dumagats with respect knowing that they also play a vital role in the province.
“Our fellow Dumagats who reside in the mountainous area in Norzagaray help cultivate the land thus preventing fatal effects of natural catastrophes. We should give them credit for that and treating them with respect and honoring their rich culture and traditions are a few ways to do it,” Fernando said.
Pursuant to Proclamation No. 1906, Series of 2009, the month of October every year is declared as ‘National Indigenous Peoples Month’. ###
