Bulacan to celebrate Nutrition Month, advocates healthy diet

CITY OF MALOLOS – With the theme, “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit-FOR LIFE”, the Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) will emphasize the importance of proper and healthy diet on the launching of this year’s nutrition month to be held at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city on July 3, 2017, Monday.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said this year’s celebration aims to create awareness on the importance of healthy diet to prevent under or over nutrition like being too skinny or being obese and to avoid acquiring non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart diseases.

It also aims to inform the public on the difference of unhealthy and healthy diet, to exercise their will to choose what’s right and to encourage food producers, establishment and farmers to produce and sell healthy foods. It is also part of their objective to pass a resolution, policy or law for enabling environment for healthy diet.

According to PSWDO Head Rowena J. Tiongson, the said celebration comprises several activities such as Lugaw and Nutri-Notebook Caravan on Nutrition Month, Healthy Diet for the Family Cooking Contest at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, guesting of the Provincial Nutrition Committee on Kalingang Bulakenyo to tackle issues on nutrition and Culminating Program on July 30, 2017.

On the same day, the PSWDO will launch the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week with a theme, “Karapatan at Pribilehiyo ng may Kapansanan, Isakatuparan at Ipaglaban”.

In this program, a pre-screening of patients with harelip and cleft palate will take place at Baliwag District Hospital which aims to help those differently-abled Bulakenyos to have equal right with others and exercise their privilege.

Meanwhile, on July 18, 2017, a cultural variety show entitled “Basta’t Bulakenyo, Kahit may “K” Okey” will be held for the disabled Bulakenyos.
