Bulacan joins the nation in celebrating National Heritage Month

CITY OF MALOLOS — As the historic heartland of Philippine independence, the Province of Bulacan joins the entire nation in celebrating National Heritage Month with the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future,” where the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO), has curated a month-long journey that does more than just revisit the past; it reinforces the very soul of the Filipino identity.

The festivities commenced with the vibrant energy of BalagtaSayAwit ng Bulacan and the prestigious opening of Haligi ng Hirayang Filipino, an exhibit honoring the National Living Treasures and National Artists who serve as the pillars of our creative soul on May 4.

This will be followed by by the intellectual and cultural depth of Kapihang Pamana: Ang Tradisyon ng Santacruzan on May 7; Basic Workshop on Art and Heritage Conservation on May 8; 13th Pulilan Mandala International Art Festival on May 8-10, resonating Bulakenyo artistry far beyond local borders; Youth Forum on Heritage 2026 on May 19-21; Bulaklakan on May 21, LAKAD Hagonoy: Lakbay Kasaysayan at Pamana sa Bayan ng Hagonoy on May 25; Palatuntunang Pang-alaala para sa ika-156 Anibersaryo ng Kapanganakan ni Felipe Salvador, one of the revolutionary heroes known as “Apo Ipe”; and Palatuntunang Pang-alaala para sa Pagdiriwang ng Araw ng Pambansang Watawat on May 28, marking the symbols of freedom that unite every Filipino from Luzon to Mindanao.

Governor Daniel R. Fernando emphasized that the celebration is a sacred duty for every Bulakenyo, noting that our heritage is the bridge connecting our glorious past to an inspired future.

“Itong pamana sa atin ang nagsisilbing tulay sa pagitan ng ating nakaraan at ng ating kinabukasan. Sa pagpapatibay natin ng ating tradisyon at pagbibigay-pugay sa ating mayamang kasaysayan, pinagtitibay natin ang ating pagkakakilanlan bilang mga Bulakenyo at binibigyang inspirasyon din natin ang susunod pang henerasyon na ipagpatuloy ang ating nakagisnang pamana,” the governor said.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 439, the annual observance aims to promote awareness, respect, and appreciation of the Filipino culture, history, and identity while encouraging efforts to preserve the country’s rich and diverse heritage.
