Bulacan holds its 1st tourism photography contest

CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan (PGB) through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) has chosen qualified finalists for the grand finals of its first ever tourism photography contest that aims to capture the beauty and unique facets of Bulakenyo culture.

The contest dubbed as “Larawang Bulakenyo Turismo Photography Competition” has already screened thousands of entries which are all adhered to the theme “Lalawigan Ko, Kikilalanin Ko” that showcases the natural wonders of Bulacan in four different categories – festivals, local delicacies, nature and travel destinations and structures and historical landmarks.

“We launched the contest last August 15, 2016 and the submission of entries ended last June 15, 2016. Out of thousands of entries, we have chosen 83 qualified finalists that will still undergo rigorous screenings for the grand awarding,” PHACTO Head Dr. Eliseo Dela Cruz said.

The competition, which is part of the weeklong celebration of Singkaban Festival, will also exhibit all the 83 photos that made it to the finals from September 8-15, 2016 at Robinsons Place Malolos while the formal announcement of the winners will be on September 15, as part of the culminating activity of the celebration of Malolos Congress.

The grand winner in each category will receive P30,000 and a plaque while the first and second runners up will receive P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.
PHACTO will also award four consolation prizes with cash incentives and certificates of merit to the contestants of the competition who showcased their innate talent in photography.

Meanwhile, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado expressed his gratitude to the photographers who joined the competition and said that it is one of the strategies of the PGB in promoting the natural wonders and diverse culture of Bulacan.

“This competition is a great opportunity for us to promote the tourism industry of the province as well as the love for photography of our local photographers. The event itself is also a gratifying chance for the participants in discovery of beautiful places and unique facets of Bulacan. I can’t wait for the Bulakenyos to witness the wonders of our province in photographs,” the governor said.
