CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) emphasized the importance of disaster awareness building in disaster resilience during the launching of programs and activities in observance of National Disaster Resilience Month this July held at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city, Monday morning.
According to Governor Wilhemino M. Sy-Alvarado, the National Disaster Resilience Month aims to enrich the awareness of Bulakenyos about consciousness and resiliency during calamities.
“Ang layunin nito ay mapataas ‘yung antas ng kamulatan, kamalayan sa kalamidad at ‘yung kasanayan. Ibig-sabihin, kasanayan sa paghahanda, kasanayan sa pagtugon sa kalamidad at kasanayan kung paano mabilis na maibabalik sa normal na pamumuhay ‘yung mga community na nasalanta ng kalamidad,” Alvarado said.
With this year’s theme, ‘KATATAGAN SA KALAMIDAD ay Makakamtan kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan’, the month-long program includes Regional Rescue Olympics 2018 on July 4-6 at Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija; UNTV Rescue Summit on July 9-11 at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium and Quezon City Memorial Circle, Quezon City; Orientation on the Barangay Disaster Preparedness and Distribution of Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) Hand Tools on July 10-13 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center and on July 13 at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
For Regional Rescue Olympics 2018, PDRRMO teamed up with the Bulacan Rescue Team and other Local Government Units (LGUs) called ‘One Bulacan’. The cities and municipalities who joined the team were Cities of Meycauayan, and Malolos, and Municipalities of Marilao, Bustos, and Pulilan.
Also, the PDRRMO lined up activities such as DRRM Orientation for Cooperative Members with Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) on July 12-13 at Guiguinto Gym; Standard First Aid for Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) on July 14-15 at PDRRMO Conference Room; Training and Workshop on Disaster Preparedness on July 23 at Marilao; and Advance Capability Building Training on July 25-29 in Norzagaray.
PDRRMO Head Felicisima Mungcal also highlighted that once they show their skills and abilities in the said competition, they are also practicing their capabilities in order to develop their skills when it comes to rescue operations.
The celebration is pursuant to Executive Order No. 137 dated August 10, 1999 wherein July every year is declared as the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.
