CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO) kicked off the celebration of the one hundred years of cooperativism through a provincial cooperative parade at 6:30 in the morning from Bulacan Sports Complex in Sta. Isabel going to Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city today.
Anchored on the theme,”Kooperatiba: Ika-100 Taong Pagpupugay Tulay sa Maunlad na Buhay”, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said the PCEDO has lined up various activities that will highlight the important role of cooperatives in nation building.
During the program, Alvarado thanked everyone who graced the opening program particularly Cong. Gavini “Apol” C. Pancho who represented and read the message of the former Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel “Mar” A. Roxas II, the guest of honor.
The governor also recalled how cooperatives started in the province more than hundred years ago wherein former Bulacan Governor Teodoro Sandiko started founding cooperatives in the country to being considered as the cooperative capital of the Philippines at present.
“Isa pong malaking karangalan para sa ating lalawigan at sa inyong lingkod na kung saan sa bansang Pilipinas ay kinikilala ‘yung bayanihan, pagtutulungan sa anumang gawain ay dito sa lalawigan nagsimula. Dito rin po sa ating lalawigan nagsimula ang cooperative movement,” Alvarado said.
More or less 2,000 participants including heads and members of the different coops in Bulacan participated in the said event.
Among the highlights of the month long celebration are Cooperative and Trade Fair in front of the Pasalubong Center on October 5 to 9 from 8 am to 5 pm; the Regional Cooperative Centennial Fun Run with estimated 3,000 participants on October 9 from 5 am to 8 am at the Mini Forest, Provincial Capitol Compound and the 2nd Regional Kooplympics from 9 am to 4 pm at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium.
Moreover, a Bloodletting Activity will be held at the Municipal Hall of San Rafael, Bulacan on October 7 at 7 am; Fatima 4, Sapang Palay, CSJDM on October 16 at 8 am; San Martin 2, Sapang Palay, CSJDM on October 23 at 8 am and Pavilion de Bayanihan, Bambang in Bocaue on October 25 at 8 am.
The PCEDO will also conduct a tree planting activity at Bulacan State University-Hagonoy Campus, Brgy. Iba, Hagonoy on October 20.
Outstanding Cooperatives in the province will also be recognized in the Gawad Galing Kooperatiba on October 29, 2015 to be held at Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium and a fellowship will follow afterwards.
Alvarado said that the various activities aim to raise awareness on the importance of cooperatives and to recognize its vital contribution in Bulacan’s development.
