Bulacan celebrates 25th Library and Information Services Month
CITY OF MALOLOS – The Provincial Government of Bulacan is in one with the nation in celebrating the 25th Library and Information Services Month.
In line with this, the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office (PHACTO) will hold an exhibit with a theme “Gat. Mariano Ponce: Manunulat at Tagapagtaguyod ng Aklatan” to be held at the Event Center of SM City Baliwag come November 10 at 1:00 in the afternoon.
The said exhibit is in honor of Ponce for being the former president of the Committee on Libraries when he was a representative of Bulacan in the Philippine Assembly, the lower house of the Philippine Legislature from 1907 to 1916 and was renamed the House of Representatives of the Philippines later on.
The Friends of Bulacan Provincial Library will also be recognized in the event for donating books and other reading materials in the Bulacañana Collection, a section in the Provincial Library which consists of reading materials about the province.
Moreover, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado encourages every barangay to donate books and other reading materials to add up to the Bulacañana Collection and help educate the community about their local history.
“Tandaan natin ang kahalagahan ng pagbabasa dahil sa pamamagitan nito, mas lalawak ang ating kaalaman, kaya naman iniimbitahan natin ang lahat na makiisa sa pagpapahalaga sa ating aklatan sa pamamagitan ng pagkakaloob ng babasahin patungkol sa kanilang mga barangay, bayan o lungsod, gayundin ng iba pang libro na makatutulong sa pagpapayaman ng kaisipan ng mga Bulakenyo,” Alvarado said.
The governor also said that the PHACTO will distribute books from the National Library of the Philippines to selected public schools in the province which the Department of Education had already chosen. There will be 91 bundles with 10 books each to be distributed.
