CITY OF MALOLOS – The Province of Bulacan together with Negros Occidental, dominated the recently concluded “13th ATOP-DOT Pearl Awards” held in Limketkai Luxe Hotel Ballroom, City of Cagayan De Oro, Misamis Oriental where it brought home the major awards.
The entries of Bulacan that includes ‘Singkaban Festival’ was awarded as the “Best Tourism Festival” and ‘Lakbike Turismo 2017’ as the “Best Tourism Event (Sports) Province Category.
Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that celebrating Singkaban Festival is an effective way to continuously increase the awareness of Bulakenyos regarding the rich history, colorful arts and culture and outstanding talents and products of the province.
Also, through the Lakbike Turismo 2017, having a healthy body and clean, orderly environment were given importance wherein through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Council, the participants pedaled their bikes to various tourism sites in Doña Remedios Trinidad.
The City of Malolos also landed on the second spot as the “Best Tourism Event Festival (City Level)” for their ‘Fiesta Republica –A Festival of Filipino History’ while the town of Pulilan won third place as the “Best Tourism Event (Sports) Municipal Level” for their ‘Pulilan Bike Fest and “Best Tourism Festival Category (Municipal Level)” for their ‘Kneeling Carabao Festival’.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental bagged the first place as the “Best Tourism Month/Week Celebration (City Category)” and “Hall of Fame Award” for Sagay City; third place for “Best Practices on Community-Based Responsible Tourism (Community-Based Tourism Campaign or Event/Joint Program or Project) Category in ‘Sagay City’s The Suyac Island Journey: Coastal Communities Resource Advocacies to Boost Sustainability (CCRABS)’; and first place as “Best Tourism Event (Sports) City Category” for ‘Sipalay City’s Tourism Kite Festival’ among others.
Prior to this, Bulacan won as the 1st runner up in Best Tourism Event (Provincial Category-Festival) during the 12th ATOP-DOT Pearl Awards in 2017 and was given special citation for Best Tourism Month/Weeklong Celebration – Provincial Category in 2016.
The ATOP-DOT Pearl Awards is an annual awards conducted by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines and Department of Tourism that honors great efforts made by the people in the tourism industry, most especially the local government units in preserving their respective cultural history.
