CITY OF MALOLOS – Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, the new chairman of the Adolescent and Youth Health Council under Executive Order No. 6 of 2015, supports the implementation of Adolescent Youth Health Program (AYHP) in the province that will uphold the rights and cater to the mens’rolex replica health of every youth.
The Provincial Government of Bulacan aspires to achieve the goals of AYHP which is to protect the rights of children under 18 years old which comprise the 21.5% of the country’s population, to prevent early pregnancies to decrease risky behaviors among adolescents and to create an adolescent and youth friendly environment.
Alvarado said that through the AYHP Council, the program will establish and maintain linkages with local, national and private institutions for the establishment of an adolescent youth friendly environment. It is also the responsibility of the AYHP Council to sustain projects and activities related to adolescent health and development focusing on reduction of teenage pregnancy.
According to the Provincial Public Health Office, the province recorded a total of 12,841 teenage pregnancies in 2014, 149 of which were from 10-14 age group and 3,144 from the age group of 15-17 years old. The youngest pregnancy recorded last year is 10 years old and HIV cases among 15-24 years old are increasing.
Based on the Philippine Health Statistics last 2003, complications related to pregnancy, epilepsy, chronic rheumatic heart disease and intentional self harm are significant causes of death among Filipinos ages 10-24 years old.
In line with this, the PGB held a weeklong orientation on Adolescent Immunization for the Department of Education which is composed of 704 Bulacan supervisors, school principals and school heads. “We also organize technical working group that will participate in the formulation of the framework and operational plan, lead the development and localization of youth friendly information materials and monitor and evaluate the program. We do these for the youths’ best interest,” Dr. Jocelyn Gomez, PPHO head said.
The Adolescent Health Program was established in the country in 2001 under the DOH in partnership with other government agencies with adolescent concerns.
