CITY OF MALOLOS – Sixty previously recognized and 30 newly-listed centenarians received P10,000 cash incentive from the Provincial Government of Bulacan during the “Pagkilala at Pagpapahalaga sa mga Sentenaryong Bulakenyo at Pagdiriwang ng Linggo ng Katandaang Pilipino” held at The Pavilion in Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city yesterday.
Aside from the cash incentive, the additional batch of Bulakenyo hundred-year-olds and above got a plaque of recognition and appreciation and is waiting for their P100,000 incentive from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Governor Wilhelmino believed that if the youth is the hope of our nation, the elderlies are the light that guide the path of the youth.
“Hangad namin na patuloy pa kayong biyayaan ng higit pang kalakasan at mabuting kalusugan upang patuloy ninyong masaksihan at tamasahin ang mga pagpapalang hatid ng isang matiwasay, mapayapa at maunlad na Lalawigan ng Bulacan,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, DSWD Regional Director Gemma Gabuya said that the recognition is the government’s way of paying back the centenarians for their services and contributions to the country during the time when they were still capable and strong to function.
“Maraming benepisyo ang ating mga nakatatanda na itinatakda ng ating pamahalaan kaya naman makasisiguro kayo na aming pinangangalagaan ang kapakanan ng ating mga lolo at lola,” Gabuya said.
The giving of cash incentive for the centenarians is in accordance with Republic Act No. 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016, an act honoring and granting additional benefits and privilege to Filipino centenarians, and for other purposes.”
It is also the law that specifies the first Sunday of October as the National Respect for Centenarians Day.
