CITY OF MALOLOS – One hundred librarians attended the 2nd Provincial Conference of Public Librarians held last May 16-18, 2016 at the Francisco Balagtas Hall, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.
Participants in the said conference included librarians from the local government units, colleges, and Department of Education Divisions.
With the theme “Public Libraries: Sanctuary of Heritage and History”, the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office aims to further enhance the knowledge of public librarians in managing libraries and become effective and productive individual in giving quality service to its library clients.
The learning sessions under the three-day conference included the topics in Basic Library Management, Heritage Law (R.A. 10066) and Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP), and Archival Collection: A Source of Local History.
Also parts of the three-day conference were the General Assembly, Team Building and election of officers and members of the Board of Trustees of Bulacan Public Librarians Association, Inc. (BPLAI).
Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado expressed his appreciation to the event organizers and to the attendees of the event.
“Binabati ko ang lahat ng mga nag-organisa at sumuporta sa gawaing ito dahil malaki ang maiaambag nito upang patuloy na matupad ang ating misyon na i-preserba at imulat ang mga Bulakenyo sa kahalagahan ng pagkakaroon ng mga silid-aklatan gayundin ang mahalagang papel ng mga katiwala ng aklatan sa paggabay sa pagsasaliksik ng mga mag-aaral at iba pang maniniyasat,” Alvarado said.
The lecturers and speakers who have shared their knowledge were Jilven Amar, librarian of Public Libraries Division of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP); Dr. Vernon Totanes, director of Rizal Library and assistant professor of History Department of the Ateneo de Manila University and Dr. Jaime Veneracion, historian and retired professor of the University of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Sharisse Rae Lim represented Yolanda Jacinto, OIC/assistant director of the NLP as the guest of honor.
The said event was made possible through the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), NLP, BPLAI, and Samahang Pangkasaysayan ng Bulacan (SAMPAKA).
