Bello names Ka Blas as one of the greatest Filipinos

CITY OF MALOLOS - Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III named the late Senator Blas F. Ople as one of the greatest Filipinos of all time.

During the commemoration of Ople's 90th birthday held at the Gat Blas F. Ople Building, Capitol Compound in this city early morning today, the secretary said that if Ople was still alive, he would have done more for the country.

In line with the ongoing peace talks, the labor secretary said that he believes Ople would have agreed to it while at the same time would have emphasized the importance of values in every Filipinos to achieve peace in the land.

“Why do we have a problem of rebellion? Why people fight in government and try to withdraw our government? Tatlo po ang dahilan according to the late chairman Giola. Unang dahilan ‘yung sobrang kahirapan, more than 60 percent ng mga Pilipino are below poverty level, idagdag mo pa, they see the government as a symbol of injustice, ‘yung tingin na ang katarungan ay para lamang sa mga mayayaman, at ang sobrang kurakot sa gobyerno, ngayon kahit sa pribado kurakot na din,” Bello said.

Bello also shared some programs such as the establishment of the OFW Bank for free remittances and the upcoming peace talks to be held in Rome on February 22 to 25, 2017 for possible bilateral ceased fire agreement.

Moreover, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado said that the late senator was not only a man of wisdom, but a man of action.

“Sa kabila ng lahat ng kapurihan at karangalang tinamo, pinili niyang tumindig sa lupa at kailanma'y hindi nagbingi-bingihan sa opinyon ng iba. Hindi lamang kaginhawahan ang hatid niya sa mga Pilipino, bagkus ay dalisay na liwanag sa sambayanan,” Alvarado said.
Susan “Toots” Ople, daughter of Ka Blas, reminisced her fathers’ memories and the inspiration he inculcated to his family and to every Filipino.

“Dumarating po sa buhay ng mga Pilipino na bayan at bandila naman ang nais iangat, ang magsilbi ng tapat sa ating bansa, ang public service po anumang uri, sa anumang paraan, ang tunay na himagas na dapat pagsalu-saluhan lalo na sa isang araw na tulad nito,” Ople said.
For his part, Board Member Felix Ople, son of Ka Blas, thanked the people who continues to remember the life of his father and imparted the importance of education.

“Dahil sa kahirapan, hindi nakapagtapos ang tatay ko subalit hindi doon natapos, dahil alam niya ang kahalagahan ng edukasyon, tinuruan niya ang kanyang sarili, nagbasa ng maraming libro. Nung senador na siya at nagtalumpati sa FEU commencement exercises inabot po sa kanya ang diploma ng kanyang pagtatapos at binigyan ng honorary doctorates degree,” the board member said.

Meanwhile, the Tech4ED Center was formally launched at the Bulacan Provincial Library.
“This is a technology empowerment for education, employment, entrepreneurship for economic development that will help make the communities more self reliant by empowering the people by way of access sa komunikasyon, impormasyon, knowledge and learning and the general public can access this dito sa library,” Dir. Cheryl Ortega, DICT Field Operations Office Luzon Cluster 2 said.

The governor also signed a MOA granting the DICT 3 the free use of the office located at the 2nd floor of Provincial Government Commercial Bldg. to serve as the Tech4Ed extension for more Bulakenyos to avail of the opportunity to be served and get access to the different services that will be provided such as free trainings, online government services like NBI online registration and passport application among others.

In addition, the Barangay Training and Employment Coordinators, Bulacan Career Guidance Advocates Network Inc., OFW Family Circle, the Bulacan PESO Managers and the People Management Association of the Philippines-Bulacan took their oath of service before the DOLE secretary and Bulacan local officials.

Ka Blas became the secretary of labor, senator, foreign affairs secretary that had set standards of service that many public servants seek to achieve.
