Bulakenyos to commemorate the 90th birthday of Ka Blas Ople

CITY OF MALOLOS – Thousands of Bulakenyos will gather together to commemorate the 90th Birth Anniversary of the late former senator Blas Ople also known as the “Father of Overseas Employment" on February 3, 2017, 8 am at the Gat. Blas F. Ople Building in this city.

With this year’s theme, “Ka Blas @90: Kahalagahan ng Edukasyon, Pamana sa Bagong Henerasyon”, Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado will lead the short program prepared by the Provincial Government of Bulacan through the Provincial History, Arts, Culture and Tourism Office which includes the opening of exhibit of Hagonoy Art Group at the Hiyas Gallery and formal launching of Tech4Ed Center at the Provincial Library.

Alvarado encourages the Bulakenyos to join in the said commemoration since the said date was declared as a special non-working holiday in Bulacan in accordance with Proclamation No. 135.

Family members of the Ople clan are expected to grace the event including Susan “Toots” Ople and Board Member Felix Ople as well as the officials and employees of the PGB, local officials, librarians, teachers and students, senior citizens, veterans and volunteer workers among others.

Meanwhile, Tech4Ed Center or Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development will bring a modernize system at the Provincial Library.

According to the governor, the said project of the Department of Information and Communication Technology aims to update the services at the Provincial Library.

“Maganda ang magiging dulot ng Tech4Ed sa mga Bulakenyo sapagkat sa pamamagitan ng isang solong ICT portal nito, maaaring mapakinabangan ng mga Bulakenyo ang e-GovServ para sa mga transaksiyon sa gobyerno, e-EduSkills para sa learning on-demand kabilang na ang Alternative Learning System, at e-Assist na nakatuon naman sa digital at financial literacy,” Alvarado said.

Ka Blas was a Filipino journalist and politician who held several high-ranking positions in the executive and legislative branches of the Philippine government, including as Senate President from 1999 to 2000, and as Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2002 until his death.

He was also the author of the Philippine Labor Code.

Ople was born in Hagonoy, Bulacan on February 3, 1927 to Felix Antonio Ople, a craftsman who repairs boats and Segundina Fajardo.
