Governor Josefina Mendoza Dela Cruz |
Biography
Born on February 24, 1958, Josie as she is fondly called, is the eldest among five of Jose “JM” Mendoza and the late Iluminada “Nena” Roxas Mendoza of Lolomboy, Bocaue who are pioneers in the business of importing veterinary products in the country. Her siblings include Maria Teresita, Dr. Pedrito, Joselito Andrew and Maria Fedelis.
She is married to Rogelio B. dela Cruz, a businessman. They are blessed with four children namely Josephine Marie, Josephine Andrea, Jose Luis, Jose Paolo.
Gov. Josie is the political counterpart of a career executive who made it to the top by passing and excelling in every step. Her political experiences span 21 years: she was elected number 1 and the youngest councilor of Bocaue at the age 21, she assumed as Vice-Mayor of Bocaue at age 23, she was elected youngest Board Member of Bulacan in 1998 at age 29, she was the first woman to be elected Vice-Governor of Bulacan in 1992, she was re-elected Vice-Governor of Bulacan in May 1995. She assumed the governorship on February 9, 1998 and was elected as first Lady Governor of Bulacan on May 11, 1998 with an astounding 345,000 votes. In May 14, 2000, she was once again re-elected for her second term as Governor garnering an overwhelming 95% of the votes cast.
She brought with her 21 years of experience in local governance, backed by solid educational background in Management Engineering (Cum Laude, Ateneo de Manila University, 1980) and Psychology (Magna Cum Laude, Ateneo de Manila University, 1981).
Powered by strong faith in the Bulakeño, she brought major reforms in government service, introduced and enhanced the culture of excellence in the bureaucracy, ranked total customer satisfaction as among her top priorities and equipped the provincial government with tools of development that make them at par with the rest of the world.
